New Delhi, August 1: A ransomware attack has reportedly disrupted payment systems in about 300 small banks in India, which caused significant issues with ATM and UPI services. The attack targeted C-Edge Technologies, a service provider for these banks. As per reports customers have faced difficulties accessing essential payment services.

The ransomware attack affected C-Edge Technologies, a joint venture between the State Bank of India (SBI) and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The breach was reportedly discovered two days ago. Dileep Sanghani, who is the chairman of the National Cooperative Union of India, said that the attack caused problems with online transactions like RTGS and UPI payments.

As per multiple reports, the ransomware attack primarily impacted ATM withdrawals and UPI services. Customers of the affected banks have been unable to withdraw cash from ATMs or complete UPI transactions. Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) payments have also been affected. It means that people were not able to transfer money online properly. When people tried to send money, it was deducted from their account, but it did not get credited to the receiver's account, which led to transaction failures.
