The incident occurred on a farm in Polokwane, where 45-year-old Maria Makgato and 34-year-old Lucia Ndlovu were reportedly searching for food when they were attacked.

Mabutho Ncube, the husband of Ndlovu, was with the women during the attack and managed to survive. He later discovered their decomposing bodies in a pigsty while with police on August 17.
